Rio 2016: Olympic Games daily schedule released
Olympic Shooting events will take place during a nine-days span, at the Deodoro venues in Rio, from August 6th to August 14th 2016.
The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee recently released the complete daily schedule of the upcoming Summer Olympics. It happened when the countdown to the start of the Games reached the 500 days mark, on March 24th, along with many others initiatives aimed at celebrating the milestone.
After the opening ceremony, scheduled for August 5th at the Maracanã Stadium, the Olympic Shooting events will begin awarding medals since August 6th, as the tradition of assigning the first medal of the Games in a Shooting event will be fulfilled. The nine days of shooting competitions will end on August 14th, seven days before the end of the Summer Olympics.
The venue of the fifteen Olympic Shooting events is going to be the Olympic Shooting Center, located inside one of the two Olympic Parks that will be prepared in Rio: the Deodoro, in the northern part of the city. The shooting center is one of the already existing venues of Rio 2016, as it was built for the Rio 2007 Pan-American Games and it will only undergo some minor modifications before the Olympics. The Deodoro Olympic Park, will also host field hockey events, as well as modern pentathlon, rugby, mountain bike and some basketball ones.
From April 14th to April 25th the Olympic Shooting Center, in preparation for the Games, will host one stage of the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun.
