From 9 to 11 October 2026, the shooting range of the Sports Centre of the National Army in Chișinău hosted the National Championship of the Republic of Moldova in air pistol and air rifle (seniors, juniors U21 and U18) and small-bore (seniors, youth, juniors). 52 athletes from three clubs took part: CSPLN and CSAN from Chișinău and ȘSS-1 from Bălți.

The stakes were high. The championship promotes shooting in the Republic of Moldova, gives athletes the chance to meet the standards and qualifying scores for international competitions, and is the stage at which the strongest athletes are selected for the national team and for the European Championships, World Cups and other international competitions. The competition was organised by the National Shooting Sports Federation (FSNT), with the support of the Ministry of Education and Research, under the rules of the ISSF, FSNT and the European Shooting Confederation (ESC). In the U18 category, the air pistol and air rifle events were shot over 40 shots, as in ESC competitions.

The first day, 9 October, opened with the mixed team events in pistol and rifle and the official opening ceremony. On 10 and 11 October the individual air events for seniors and juniors took place. The last day ended with the 25 m small-bore sport pistol event and the closing of the competition.

The final standings show a balanced championship. CSAN and CSPLN shared the titles, 7 each, while CSAN collected the most medals, 23 in total. The juniors from Bălți went home with 9 medals, including 3 titles and a full podium.

Anti-doping seminar with ANAD

On the last day of the championship, representatives of the National Anti-Doping Agency (ANAD) held a training seminar for athletes and coaches. For many juniors it was their first direct encounter with anti-doping rules, which they will apply throughout their careers, from national competitions to ISSF events.

  • Strict liability: the athlete is responsible for any prohibited substance found in their body, regardless of how it got there.
  • The Prohibited List and the risks of dietary supplements and of medicines taken without medical advice.
  • Doping control: how it works, the athlete’s rights and obligations, therapeutic use exemptions.

The Federation thanks Artiom JUCOV, general director ANAD,  the ANAD team for their availability. Clean sport starts with informed athletes.

Technical training

SCATT workshop with the company’s director

During the championship days, the federation’s athletes and coaches also took part in a hands-on training session with Alexandr BOLGARI, director of SCATT and one of the most versatile specialists in the use of this training system.

Our athletes are already familiar with SCATT technology, so the session went straight into the details. Participants learned how to read the aiming trace, how to assess stability in the last second before the shot, how to analyse the trigger release and follow-through, as well as some aspects of ballistics.

For the federation, such training is highly valuable. High-performance equipment matters, and results come when the athlete and the coach know how to combine the qualities of the firearm with innovative training equipment and technologies.

In brief

What is SCATT

Since 1991, SCATT has been producing electronic training systems for high-precision shooting events. The optical sensor is mounted on the barrel and records the movement of the aiming point before, during and after the shot. The screen shows exactly what the athlete “feels”: the moment of trigger release and the follow-through.

The system also works in dry firing, without ammunition, so technique can be trained at home, in the gym or at the range. The flagship model, SCATT MX-W2, is wireless and works with a computer or a mobile app.

According to the company, SCATT is used by many national teams and thousands of professional shooters, including Olympic and world champions. In 2025, at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl (Germany), the ISSF tested SCATT devices to show spectators the athletes’ aiming trace live during rifle and pistol finals.

We thank the SCATT team for all their support.
